Description

The Type-Writer Girl The protagonist of The Type-Writer Girl is a young woman who finds herself forced to take care of herself after her father passes away. Juliet Appleton is the prototype of the New Woman – she is well educated, she has a job, she likes to smoke, she rides a bicycle and she possesses a highly developed sense of adventure. She loves to read and has strong opinions about the literature she consumes, she likes anarchists and loves her dog. Forced to be independent by the whims of fate, Juliet easily adapts to her new situation and tries to make the best of it.

With her qualifications, typewriting and shorthand, Juliet finds a job in a law office. However, she soon realizes that she cannot work in the obnoxious atmosphere from the office, where she can barely stand her colleagues and boss. After a series of enticing adventures, Juliet finds a new job opportunity at a publishing company.

Juliet longs for freedom and, for her, freedom means mobility, the possibility to be the designer of her own adventures and the ability to support herself. She achieves all these; nevertheless her life is not complete without a love story. She falls in love with her new employer, and he falls for her too, but complications are bound to appear.
