Enjoy a Fun and Comedic Take on Post-Apocalyptic Literature with The Return

A unique and well-written book that some might find disturbingly fun, while others would just consider it a relaxing pastime, The Return is one of those books that can captivate you just with their stories. Set in a future version of the world mostly destroyed by atomic blasts, the story follows the adventure of a group of men looking for other survivors across a countryside affected by the aftermath of atomic warfare.

Although there are plenty of novels nowadays that depict the end of the world, very few are as original or as uniquely well-written as The Return. Written more than 60 years ago and reprinted plenty of times, this little book just keeps coming back and bringing fascination, awe and intrigue to each new generation it touches.

The most interesting aspect of the book isn’t necessarily the fact that it seems to provide somewhat of a science fiction prophecy about the end of the world that, eerily enough, could still be in the works according to some. Instead, what’s truly special about The Return is the way in which it portrays the hope of a return to civilization by presenting a unique new society born out of the remnants of an old military platoon, long ago separated from its peers.

The group seems to use a curious form of religion based on deduction rather than faith, and although a simple idea, this concept has led to many controversies and debates over the years, especially as society and cultural values were seen in a new light during the first years of the 21st century.

Probably even more meaningful and current than in the year of its initial publication, The Return is one of the simplest, yet most engaging and truly unique science fiction tales you will encounter, undoubtedly still being able to captivate its readers from the first few pages alone.
