The story is about a young American who visits the country of “Latha” together with his mother, who was born there. When our hero is mistakenly believed to be a missing, crazy king, and locked up, all depends on his skills and ingenuity. While his resourcefulness comes in handy, however, he soon realizes that there are other forces involved – namely his own heart, as he soon falls in love with a beautiful maiden.

While interesting, easy to follow and easy to become addicted to, The Mad King may take some time to get used to. Burroughs’ writing style is in line with everything you might expect from a novel written more than 100 years ago, and more, offering a complex plot line, a character that grows and evolves over the course of the book, and many surprising and quite fascinating turns of events that will keep you on your toes throughout the read.

You may be more interested in a quiet, enjoyable story you can simply read in the evening close to the fireplace.
