The Girl Scouts at Home or Rosanna’s Beautiful Day tells the story of young Rosanna Horton who was a much needy small girl. Telling all about Rosanna is somewhat unusual for Katherine to do.

She resided in some of the very picturesque houses in Louisville, a city of picturesque houses. And Rosanna’s was among the most beautiful. It was a big, digressive home of red brick with enormous terraces in the front and on both sides. On the right side of the home was a marvelous botanical garden. It ensconced part a square, and was rung by a towering stone fence. Not a single person can peer in to look at what she was doing. That was somewhat good, but obviously not a single person can peer into either to look at what they were doing on the brick walkway, and that does not appear so good.

Behind the botanical garden, fronting on a tidy bricked lane, was the parking space, adequately wide to keep 4 vehicles. The parking space was draped with trailing plants. Or else, it would have been a building so strange, with its one door unlocking into the botanical garden, and on that part not one more door or window either in the upper floor or down. The upper floor was a truly beautiful small apartment for the family driver to stay in, but all the windows had been placed on the side or in the anterior for the reason that elderly Mrs. Horton, the grandmother of Rosanna, did not know that drivers’ families were yet the kind who have to peer down into the botanical garden where Rosanna mess around and where she herself rested in her chair and had a cup of tea in an afternoon. At the other part of the botanical garden where the roses were outrageous and the other blossoms grew bigger was a small hut, made only for the little girl…
