Description

The setting of the novel, The Fixed Period, takes place in the fictional place called Britannula. One of the characters of the story is Gabriel Crasweller, a successful merchant, famer and landowner and is the oldest citizen in Britannula. He was born in 1913 and he settled in New Zealand in his younger years and contributed to the establishment of the new republic as among the group of men similar with his own way of thinking, including his closest friend named John Neverbend, ten years younger than him, who is currently the President of Britannula. Gabriel is in favor of the law since then, the law which is the Fixed Period, he became more contemplative as the day of the last term comes. John, anticipates his victory and believes that men and civility will be formed into an absolute completeness. He hopes to be a part of the great reformers in the history of politics, as he gave the first idea of reformation. Series of events and incidents come along the story putting so much thought about the politics and how it affected both friends.

Anthony Trollope was a British author during the Victorian period. One of his famous works is a collection of books known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which is set around the fictional county of Barsetshire. Trollope also wrote books on the basis of political, social, and gender issues, and other topical matters.

The father of Anthony, Thomas Anthony Trollope, was a barrister. He was a brilliant and highly educated man and a Fellow of New College, Oxford, but sadly, he did not pass the bar examinations because of his bad attitude. He was the son of landed gentry and he wanted his sons to be gentlemen and to go to Oxford or Cambridge.

Anthony Trollope was born in London and attended Harrow School as a free day pupil at the age of seven for three years. His childhood was a frustration because of the prestigious background of his parents but were extremely impoverished.
