The First Violin is a delightful story with characters that will capture your heart from the very start – especially in the case of the heroine, May Wedderburn herself – who is a quiet, compassionate young lady who seems, however, to attract trouble just about anywhere she goes.

Once in Germany, May goes through a series of unforeseeable events that delight and astound her, while making the reading experience all the more enjoyable. With a fair dose of mystery, a clean, family-friendly style and the most beautiful music described through the pages of the book in such a way that it almost resounds through the words you read, The First Violonist is a story that will leave you with a smile and the happiest thoughts in your heart.

Although written in the early 1900s, the novel still presents the younger readers of today with a surprisingly satisfying and quite timeless reading experience, the author, Jessie Fothergill, also making sure that the ending is just as intuitive and surprisingly fulfilling as most of the book.

The only real problem with reading this book is that you can never really find a good enough replacement once you’ve finished it. The First Violin is a beautiful story that still delights readers to this day, while breaking the “mold” of its era by presenting female protagonists who are far more empowered, free and capable of dealing with life’s adventures, than many other Victorian heroines.
