Henry Jackson van Dyke, Jr. was a U. S. writer, professor, and priest. Henry Jackson van Dyke, Jr. was born on November 10, 1852, in Germantown, Pennsylvania. His father was Henry Jackson van Dyke, Sr., a distinguished Brooklyn Presbyterian minister referred to in the 18th century years for his anti-abolitionist insights. The family’s ancestor was Jan Thomasse van Dijk, who went from Holland to the North America in 1652.

Way back when he was young, Henry van Dyke completed his prep studies from Poly Prep Country Day School, Princeton University and from Princeton Theological Seminary. He later became an instructor in English literature at Princeton. A few of the several students whom he inspired was, conspicuously, forthcoming luminary travel author Richard Halliburton, Editor-in-Chief, during those days, of the Princeton Pictorial.

Henry presided the committee that authored the first Presbyterian published liturgy, The Book of Common Worship of 1906. Then, Dr. van Dyke became a professor at the University of Paris.
