Lucy wrote and published her first book, The Goose Girl, a selection of poetry for kids. She also published her A Book of Joys: A Story of a New England Summer, although her first 2 books were quite unsuccessful. She thereafter produced The Dutch Twins, luckily, it gained huge success. The Dutch Twins was encouraged by her pal Edwin Osgood Grover, who looked at a photo of Lucy illustrating a pair of Dutch kids. Edwin told Lucy that she must write sequels focusing about twins. The Dutch Twins series were a massive hit to date.
