Another murder mystery case of Anna Katharine Green, The Doctor, his Wife, and the Clock, has been one of the standout detective novels of all time. The story tells of a murder of a man being shot dead in his own house. The detective, Ebenezer Gryce, takes the case, but he does not have clues, there was even no witnesses and no evidence. Then he opts to settle the issue through getting the statements from the neighbors of the victim, particularly the blind doctor and his pretty wife. It happened on July 17, 1851 in the victim’s residence in Colonnade, Lafayette Place. The victim was known to be Mr. Hasbrouck, a dignified and greatly admired constituent, he was assailed in his room by an assaulter who is not known, he was killed that night for reasons which were not yet known. Will the detective solve this murder case? Will he be able give justice to the death of Hasbrouck?

Anna Katharine Green was an American poet and writer. She was among the first authors of fiction books of investigation in the United States and her writings are concise and specifically legal. She was described to be “the mother of the detective novel”.

Green was born in Brooklyn, New York. She fell in love into writing when she was still young, she wrote romantic poetry, and she coincided with Ralph Waldo Emerson. Her poetry was not recognized at first, so she wrote her first and famous book, The Leavenworth Case, which gained acknowledgment from Wilkie Collins, and it was the bestselling book of the year 1878. She was ultimately regarded as an author and she wrote and published almost 40 novels.

Anna Katharine Green and Charles Rohlfs got married in 1884. Her husband was an actor, a stove designer, and a furniture maker. He also had a career in theater where he directed a play of his wife’s most famous The Leavenworth Case. But his career in theater wavered so he pursued in furniture making with the help of his wife.
