The Book of Divine Consolation of the Blessed Angela of Foligno comprises treatises relating to her conversion, penitence and refraining herself to give in into evil temptations. Angela also shared her thoughts such as how one can acquire a spiritual life; the challenges a religious person faces when he is lured by immoral acts; how God pushes His people in His own understanding, affections and will; the importance of having knowledge about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Angela of Foligno, T.O.S.F., was an Italian Franciscan triennial who was recognized as a writer who wrote immensely about her otherworldly revelations. In due respect to the Catholic Church, she is called as the “Mistress of Theologians”.

Angela was noteworthy for her devotional books, as well as her foundation of a spiritual society which remains to be active up until now. It aims to extend her charity and care for the needy.

In 2013, Angela was declared a saint by the Catholic Church.

She was born in Foligno, in Umbria. Her family was fortunate. She was married, probably at a young age, and had many children. Angela discusses that she appreciates the world and its positivities. When she was around 40 years old, she narrated that she had an apparition of Saint Francis and right then, she felt that her existence was given by God for a purpose. She started living her life with adoration and fervor.

After three years, her mother died, followed by her husband and children. Angela, who was accompanied with Masazuola, started to deprive her own self along with her earthly possessions and started to repent for all of her sins. She united with the Third Order of Saint Francis, perhaps in 1291. She was under the order of a Franciscan priest whose name was Arnoldo, who served as her confessor.
