Lucy Fitch Perkins was a US illustrator and storywriter of tales for the young, mostly known for Dutch Twins and its Twins series.

Lucy Fitch was born in Maples, Indiana, the daughter of Appleton Howe and Elizabeth Bennett Fitch. Her father was an educator who lived in Maples to co-establish a factory of barrel stave. Her mother was also an educator. Lucy lived along with her mother to Hopkinton, Massachusetts, to reside with her father’s exclusive rights as her father made efforts to regain from a monetary delay from the Panic of 1873. Disheartened with the Hopkinton schools, the family settled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1879.

Lucy completed her studies from high school in 1883 and resided in Boston, Massachusetts, to enroll at the Museum of Fine Arts School. She got the chance to meet Dwight H. Perkins in her junior year. Lucy began to pen tales for little people on a casual instance for Young Folks. She commenced in 1886 and worked as an illustrator for the Prang Educational Company of Boston. After a year, she came next to Walter Scott Perry to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, to become his subordinate. Lucy quitted working to get hitched to Dwight and settle in Chicago, Illinois.

Lucy produced her first book, The Goose Girl, a selection of kid’s poetry. After a year, she published A Book of Joys: A Story of a New England Summer, but both volumes had a little success. She released The Dutch Twins, her first most important work. The tale was influenced by a close pal named Edwin Osgood Grover, who saw a photograph of Lucy drawing two Dutch kids.
