This Art of Travel is a practical guide for adventure seekers during the Victorian era. The book advices how to do all preparations of traveling, such as qualifications of a traveler, how to organize an expedition, the what to wear; to the real trip, how to choose a camp, huts and tents, what game to play, and how to cope with adverse turbulence; up to the final, successful return of the traveler which is embodied in the arranging memoranda.

Some contents of the book include mountain climbing, swimming rafts and boats, camping, enough food and water, shooting, fishing, etc.

Galton was inspired by the idea of wiring the book when he traveled to South-Western Africa. He obtained some information about the exploration, though the natives of the country were not that accustomed with the adage of the wilderness of their country. He recalled how the traditional precepts and steps of traveling in every nation are distinct from all other nations.

He got sources of information from frequent travelers, explorers, emigrants, missionaries or soldiers. He collected this information of the experiences of these persons and studied their views. He made a book out of it which it The Art of Travel. He researched for several geographical works.

The book is not exhaustive to read, but contains sufficient chapters, such information which are not totally known to explorers. The book has several editions published. The first edition was not that extensive in scope and the next editions were comprehensive and much enhanced.

Traveling is one of the greatest outlets man has ever done for many years. From foot, to the inventions of wheelers like bikes, motor vehicles, automobiles, trains, buses, airplanes, and all others. It is a pleasurable experience that traveling has evolved from time to time. Travelers must be careful and observe safety precautions to prevent unnecessary perils.
