Description

The book was published in 1909. In early times of the second century, there were many myths and legends which relates to the life and experiences of the Christian apostles circulated all throughout the world. These Apostolic Acts were amidst the earliest historical records still existent of the lives, proclamations, and martyrdoms of the apostles.

Pick wrote in a grotesque and romantic approach, though they were known in Christian perceptions of the apostles, they are historically useless as life stories.

Five apostles thought about the beliefs of the early Pre-Nicene Christianity. Bernhard Pick gathered the most complete manuscripts of the acts available. Though some sources have missing gaps.

The Acts of Paul and Thecla (Acta Pauli et Theclae) an apocryphal religious and romantic of St. Paul’s influence on a young virgin named Thecla. Tertullian tells a presbyter from Asia to write the History of Paul and Thecla, and dismissed by John the Apostle after admitting the fraudulence. Tertullian weighed in contrast to the use of the advocacy of a woman’s prerogative to preach and to baptize. During St. Paul’s First Missionary Journey proclaiming God’s words about chastity and resurrection Paul gave sermons on several beatitudes, by which Thecla listened intently.

The Acts of Peter was remarkable for a detail of a miracle contest between him and Simon Magus. Peter’s miracles were more likely influenced by God unlike with Simon, who uses magic and trickery to perform his so-called miracles and deceived the people to follow him. They made an argument and Peter was crucified upside down.

Some excerpts of the Acts of John reveal this story, John and his companions slept overnight at an inn when John was annoyed of the bed bugs. He told the bugs to leave the night and return home the next day. That morning, John’s friends saw the bugs in the doorway to return to the mattress.

More to learn from the acts of the apostles.
