Description

The Adventures of Jerry Muskrat is another charming and eventful children’s story by Thornton W. Burgess. First published in 1914, the story features the muskrat known from many other fables by Burgess, only this time he is the hero of the story, not a secondary character.

Jerry and his friends are involved in a mission to identify a major threat to their habitat and they set off on a journey not only to find out what that threat is, but also to eliminate it. The story starts with Jerry getting caught in a trap put out by Farmer Brown’s son. The little muskrat is lured to fall into the trap using carrots, his favorite delights, treats that he cannot resist. Fortunately, only his tail is caught and he manages to get out and to get home safely, but even so, the traps are still dangerous. The animals living in the Forest all gather to come up with solutions and once they have the plan – to find the traps one by one – they get down to work. They eventually restore the safety of their home forest, but until then, they go through the most amazing and exciting adventures.

With The Adventures of Jerry Muskrat, Burgess created another engaging, entertaining and educative story for children of all ages. Young kids can enjoy the exciting succession of events, while older ones can enjoy the funny, human traits that make the characters in the book so charming. Parents can start reading the stories to their children from the age of two or three and, later on, use it to promote practicing reading skills when the kids are old enough.
