Abner Doubleday was an officer in the United States Army and a Union general in the American Civil War. He led the beginning of the battle of war in defense of Fort Sumter and he played an important role in fighting during the Battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania by Union and Confederate forces in the time of the American Civil War in July 1 – 3, 1863. It had the biggest count of contingencies during the war and the battle was defined as the war’s turning point. Union Major General Meade and his army of the Potomac defeated the attacks made by Confederate General Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia, obviously, Lee was not able to conquer the North.

General Lee succeeded in invading Chancellorsville in Virginia in May 1863 and he led his army to the Shenandoah Valley for his second invasion of the North which they call as the Gettysburg Campaign. But he also failed in his second attempt. The Battle of Chancellorsville was a huge battle of the American Civil War and its principal coordination with the Chancellorsville Campaign. The battle was fought during April 30 to May 6, 1863 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, near the town of Chancellorsville. The Battle of Chancellorsville is described as Lee’s perfect battle. Two battles were fought near the area of Fredericksburg on May 3, 1863. The Chancellorsville Campaign countered Union Army Major General Joseph Hooker and his Army of the Potomac against the army of Confederate General Robert E. Lee of Northern Virginia.

On General Lee’s second attempt to conquer the North, there were three days of battle. Since his army were fewer than that of the opposition, he lost the first, second, and third day of battle and he and his army were forced to retreat back to Virginia.

President Abraham Lincoln had his historical Gettysburg Address in honor and commemoration of the fallen Union soldiers.
