Description

Aside from his famous works of non-fiction such as The Doors of Perception and The Devils of Loudun,Aldous Huxley managed to create a few important fictional novels as well, one of the most notable being Crome Yellow.

A funny satirical novel that is just as eccentric as the intrigues and individual story lines it depicts,Crome Yellow centers around a single house party that turns interesting when Huxley begins an outstanding account of his complex, entertaining characters – none of which can really be taken seriously – and began to essentially parody the characterization of each different “type” found in literature.

Huxley’s intelligent account of the house party, however, hides many other subtle and quite entertaining jokes and avenues through which he is able to build up the reader’s interest more and more with each continuing paragraph.Through prophecies of the apocalypse,an account of the history of House Crome – where the whole action takes place – and a humorous love story that seems quite unlikely at first,Huxley essentially turns Crome Yellow into one of the most droll and entertaining satirical novels you may have read in a long time.

The story satirizes the fads and fashions of Huxley’s time quite intently, and characters like Henry Wimbush – the accomplished aristocrat and self-proclaimed historian – as well as personality types such as a philosopher ,poet and a pretentious intellectual, make this novel entirely colorful and enjoyable through their unique viewpoints and discussions that may lead to quite a few good laughs.
