The eerie and suspenseful atmosphere you encounter at the beginning of the story seems to be masterfully kept in check and fluctuated by Falkner throughout the story. It will be easy to feel like an unknown force seems to guide the outcome and orchestrate new and exciting plot twists that are perhaps even outside the full control of the author himself.
