Susan Coolidge is known for her popular What Katy Did series. These books tell the story of a young girl named Katy and how she and her family manage to live in America in the 1860s.

The first of the series, What Katy Did, deals with the events that would shape the life of the oldest sister, Katy. She is the tomboy who always gets into fights and does misdeeds, but she learns a painful lesson.

From her mischiefs and squares with just about anyone, she ends up injuring herself and having to spend four years recovering, spending almost 4 years only in her room. He then becomes responsible for tending for the family, gets married and here is where this novel takes off.

The main heroine of this book is Clover, Katy’s little sister. When her brother Phil gets terribly ill, Doctor Carr suggests that she and her brother go for the Colorado Mountains. There they surprisingly find out that Clarence Page- their energetic and naughty cousin -lives. He owns a ranch and is doing fairly well. He also gets helped by his partner, an Englishman by the name of Geoff Templestowe. He is intelligent as well as handsome, and he quickly manages to win the heart of Clover. What follows is a light-hearted tale about romance, family relationships and how love always finds a way.

Sarah Coolidge published Clover in 1888, more than 16 years after having written What Katy Did. She drew inspiration from her own life where she experienced similar events and problems.

Just like the first book in the series, Clover managed to win the hearts and minds of many readers. Not only has it become the favorite of children, but this book will surely hold plenty of memorable reads to the mature audience too.
