What he had in mind was that they were looking too much to the structure above ground, and too little to the spiritual forces which must be the foundation of any structure which is to stand. Following the war we enjoyed the greatest prosperity this country has ever witnessed;–the greatest activity, the greatest bank clearings, the greatest foreign trade, the greatest railroad gross earnings, the highest commodity prices.”Roger Ward Babson was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was a US merchant, economist and business theorist in the first part of the 20th century. He is mostly commemorated for establishing Babson College. He was also the founder of Webber College, today called Webber International University, in Babson Park, Florida, and the nonoperational Utopia College, in Eureka, Kansas. His parents were Nathaniel Babson and Ellen Stearns, they were part of the 10th generation of Babsons to settle in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Roger studied in Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was employed in investment firms before establishing Babson’s Statistical Organization in 1904, which evaluated stocks and business reports; it remains currently as Babson-United, Inc.. He wedded his first wife Grace Margaret Knight on March 29, 1900, who thereafter passed away in 1956. Then, in 1957, he wedded his second wife Nona M. Dougherty, who demised in 1963.
