Space Viking is a science fiction novel written by H. Beam Piper. One of the more popular science fiction writers of the 20th century, Piper became known for his Terro-Human future universe and history. Space Viking is a novel which follows Lucas Trask, Baron of Traskon as he embarks on a quest to find the murderer of his wife.

The story takes place in the Terro-Human universe created by Piper. The background of the story is the aftermath of the Big War. Human civilization has expanded greatly into the galaxy, but at a certain point, the Big War erupted. The war between the Cosmic States of the Cosmic Computer ends with the losing side fleeing in all directions. Ten thousand refugees from this losing side flee beyond the border of the Terran Federation and eventually colonize the planet they called Excalibur. At the start of the Space Viking, it appears that a new civilization has emerged, colonizing a few other planets they called Sword Worlds. With a population of more than 3 billion people, the sword worlds start making war with one another.

Story unfolds as planets of the Old Federation are discovered. The civilizations on these have regressed, and so warriors from the Sword worlds, called Space Vikings, start looting them. The main protagonist of the story is about to marry Elaine Karvall, but the crazy nephew of the Duke Angus breaks the wedding and kills her. Thus starts a journey to avenge his wife’s death, a journey that will take him and a few loyal companions to Old Federation planets such as Tanith and Marduk.

Space Vikings is a thrilling science fiction novel packed with adrenaline that will definitely keep readers on the edge of their senses, a must-read book for any SF fan.
