Description

Space Platform is an extraordinary, complex and intriguing novel by one of the greatest masters of classic science fiction, Murray Leinster. First published in 1953, the novel is the first to introduce one of Leinster’s most popular heroes and the protagonist of an entire series, Joe Kenmore.

The young engineer protagonist is involved in a secret project: he is working on the design and launching of the very first platform to be sent up into space to orbit Earth. However grand and secret the project may be, though, the bad guys find out about it and they are doing whatever they can to sabotage it. Fortunately, Joe Kenmore is much more than an ingenious engineer – he is also the hero, the only one who can save the project from destruction and the only one who can eventually save the Earth. The story is eventful and involves lots of action, but there is also space for a love line, so the hero finds his heroine.

Joe Kenmore saves the world in this book and a number of others as well, so if you are looking for more reading in the same style, you are lucky. The first Kenmore novel was followed by two others by Leinster – Space Tug, written and published in the same year as Space Platform and discussing the difficulties of running a space platform and City on the Moon, published a few years later in 1957 and dealing with the adventured of Kenmore on a lunar base for civilians. All Kenmore novels – just like all the other stories by Leinster that do not feature the young engineer – excel in scientific accuracy and they also entertain with plots full of action and mystery and happy endings, with the good always prevailing over evil and the age-long dream of the human being to be able to travel through space coming true.
