For her, it’s also a place of hope, as she soon learns of an uncle who doesn’t know that his sister ever had a daughter.

Kate Langley Bosher has written this outstanding book in first person, from Mary’s perspective, presenting her thoughts, ideas and feelings similarly to a diary. Her masterful, often humorous and carefree writing style, as well as her ability to focus on exactly the elements and actions that are most meaningful, creates an atmosphere that takes the readers into a world created by children, where bent or broken rules are a source of excitement.
