Description

Germania was scribed by the Roman historian Publius Cornelius Tacitus approximately 98 ad and initially entitled On the Origin and Situation of the Germans in Latin: De Origine et situ Germanorum, was a classical and ethnographic writing on the Germanic societies outside the Roman Empire.

The Germania starts with an illustration of the terrestrial, rules, and tradition of the Germanic people; it also defines a single person’s society, starting with those inhabiting nearest to the lands of Roman and concluding on the furthermost coasts of the Baltic, among the amber-collecting Aesti, the Fenni, and the unfamiliar societies ahead of them.

Publius (or Gaius) Cornelius Tacitus was a statesman and a historian of the Roman Empire. The existing fragments of his two most important works such as the Annals and the Histories, narrate the rulings of the Roman emperors Tiberius, Claudius, Nero, and those who ruled in the Year of the Four Emperors (69 AD). These two books reach over the Roman Empire history from the demise of Augustus, in 14 AD, to the years of the First Jewish-Roman War, in 70 AD. There are considerable lacunae in the existing fragments, consisting of a space in the Annals that is 4 texts long.

Publius’ other works detail oratory, Germania – in De origine et situ Germanorum, and the life account of his father-in-law, Agricola, the Roman general answerable for most of the Roman overthrow of Britain, primarily concentrating on his campaign in Britannia – De vita et moribus Iulii Agricolae.

He is regarded to be among the finest Roman historians. He dwelled in what has been known as the Silver Age of Latin literature, and is referred for the succinctness and efficiency of his Latin literature, on top of his all-pervading views into the sensibility of power administration.
