Amy Wilson Carmichael was an Irish Protestant Christian propagandist in India, she started an orphanage and begun a vocation in Dohnavur. She remained in India and worked for 55 years without having rest and recuperation and she even wrote numerous books regarding her mission in India.

Carmichael was born in Millisle, County Down, Ireland to her parents David Carmichael, a miller and Catherine Carmichael. Both of her parents were faithful religious devotees and she was the first born of seven siblings. A questionable story about her tells that when she was young, she wished that she had blue eyes because she does not like that her eyes were brown, she would always pray to Jesus that she would have blue eyes but she was dismal because she did not get what she wished for. She always hurt her brother by pinching his cheeks because her brother has blue eyes. She asked for forgiveness after what she has done for her brother. When she matured, she finally accepted the fact that she has brown eyes that possibly welcomed her in India.

She was also noteworthy for her works including Things as they are; mission work in southern India, Lotus Buds, Ragland, Walker of Tinnevelly, Candles in the Dark, Rose from Brier, Mimosa: A True Story, Gold Cord, Edges of His Ways, Mountain Breezes: The Collected Poems of Amy Carmichael, Whispers of His Power, Thou Givest They Gather, Ploughed Under : The Story of a Little Lover, and her other admirable religious themed books.
