Description

Falsely granted a disreputable exoneration from the army, Calvin Gray travels to Dallas, where he succeeds to gain the trust of a jeweler and can market countless diamonds to the recently oil wealthy Briskows. He befriends with the family and assists them to fiddle with their newly unearthed jewels. The Briskows, in line, aid him show unlawful accusations that brought about his discharge from the army.

Rex Ellingwood Beach was a US writer, dramatist, and Olympic water polo player. Rex Beach was born in Atwood, Michigan, resided to Tampa, Florida, with his family where his father was harvesting fruit trees. Rex studied at Rollins College, Florida, the Chicago College of Law, and Kent College of Law, Chicago. He was then fascinated to Alaska during those times of the Klondike Gold Rush. After 5 years of unproductive mining, he decided to have a career in writing.

The Spoilers (1906) which was his second work of fiction was derived from a factual narrative of fraudulent government officers taking gold mines from prospectors, which he observe while he was mining in Nome, Alaska. The Spoilers was among the record breaking novels of 1906.

The Silver Horde (1909), one of his novels, took place in Kalvik, a novelized society in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and narrates the tale of a lucky gold prospector who discovers a bigger fortune in Alaska’s run of salmon or silver horde and agrees to start a cannery.

His action-adventure novels, inspired by Jack London, were intensely famous during the start of 1900s. Rex was hailed as the “Victor Hugo of the North,” although others opined on his novels as systematic and expectable. Scholars illustrated them as cut from the “he-man school” of literature: tales of “strong hairy men doing strong hairy deeds.” Alaska historian Stephen Haycox has stated that some of Rex’s writings are “mercifully forgotten today.”
