Description

A poem full of emotions and longing for a loved one that she wishes for him to be visible into her gloomy dreams. She reminisces her memory, hope, love for the man she used to love and regrets losing him. Now she can only hear a sad echo resonating in her reveries.

Christina Georgina Rossetti was born on December 5, 1830 and peacefully rested on December 29, 1894. She was a poet who authored various themes of romantic, devotional, and children’s poems. She is best known for writing Goblin Market and Remember, and the texts of the Christmas carol, In the Bleak Midwinter.

She was born in Charlotte Street which is now 105 Hallam Street, London, to parents Gabriele Rossetti, a poet and a political refugee from Vasto, Abruzzo, and Frances Polidori, the sister of Lord Byron’s friend and physician, John William Polidori. She had two brothers and a sister, Dante Gabriel grew up to be a distinguished artist and poet, and William Michael and Maria both became novelists. Christina, the youngest, was a bubbly child. She read aloud her first tale to her mother before she is taught to write.

She enjoyed the stunning success of Keats, Scott, Ann Radcliffe and Matthew Lewis. The impelling work of art by Dante Alighieri, Petrarch and all other Italian authors gratified their dwelling and left a huge impression on her career in writing. Their home was free to staying Italian intellectuals, artists and revolutionaries. The family homes in Bloomsbury at 38 and later 50 Charlotte Street were accessible to Madam Tussauds, London Zoo and the newly built Regent’s Park, which she takes pleasure in going to most of the time, in comparison to her parents, Christina Georgina was immeasurably a London girl and very much cheery.
