Although the title sounds nondescript, this volume is an enchanting set of 16 stories for the little ones. These short stories, best known tales made into dialogues, were created for kids who like to daydream most of the time such as being with their much-loved characters in the woods, in a mansion, or in cloud nine.

It is wished for that you will delight in these dated friends in their new clothes nearly as you cherished them in the old. When you listen to the songs of bird or tree or prince or child, try to talk with the tone and style which you feel that character would use. Then, you will make the dramatic reading a thrill to yourselves and a big fulfilment to your listeners.

Florence Holbrook was a teacher and writer who joined in the peace movement during the first years of the 20th century. She also joined the Chicago Peace Society, chair of the Women’s Peace Committee of the Chicago Political Equity League, and President of the Chicago Division of the Illinois State Teachers Association. Florence was also present at the 1915 International Conference of Women at The Hague as part of the minor American delegation led by Jane Addams. It was at this deputation that she greeted and made friends with the Hungarian pacifist Rosika Schwimmer; this amity brought to her managing Rosika’s 1914-1915 American discussion trip. She was also an infrequent speaker on the topic of peace, and an active member in Rosika’s Ford Peace Expedition of 1915-1916.
