Michael Shaara was a US novelist of sci-fi, sports, and historical books. He had Italian migrant parents – the surname was initially imply Sciarra, which in Italian is noted in an alike manner – in Jersey City, New Jersey, commenced from Rutgers University, where he enlisted in Theta Chi, and became a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division before the Korean War.

Michael was a neophyte boxer and law enforcer before he started vending his sci-fi novels to literary publications. He afterwards educated literature at Florida State University while persisting to transcribe prose. The pressure of this and his cigar smoking led him, at 36 years old, to suffer a heart attack, from which he totally recuperated. His prose of the Battle of Gettysburg, The Killer Angels, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975.

Jeffrey Shaara, his son, is also a famous novelist of classical books; mostly known series to his father’s highly successful crafts. His very popular is the groundbreaker to The Killer Angels, Gods and Generals. Jeffrey acquired Michael’s final novel, For Love of the Game, issued 3 years after his death. Today, there is a Michael Shaara Award for Excellence in Civil War Fiction, instituted by Jeffrey Shaara, given as an award every year at Gettysburg College.

Lila Shaara, his daughter is also a writer.
