Description

A collection of 31 poems in dedication to the Soldier boys written by Clara Frances Mckee Beede. Little is known of the author, but aside from her Clear Crystals, she wrote these set of poetries such as Brown Plumes, More Brown Plumes, Sunshine and Rain, Only Pebbles, Golden Leaves, and Sail High Above.

Clear Crystals consists of these poems: Mother’s Prayer, Let There Be Peace, What is this Wisdom, Soldier Trains, Dear Possessions, The Unbidden Tears, The Promise of Spring, The Days Live Again, Rolling Trucks, At Dusk, The Morning, O River Bank, There Will Come A Day, Late Autumn, All Hail Red Cross, Our Morning Prayer, Soldier To His Mother, In The Storm, To Us, The Fly and the Spider, Her Good Bye, Hills and Valleys Wake, Morning Thanksgiving, Off to the Woods, The Happy Campers, The Promise, In Reflection, Men Must Toil, That Close Drawn Veil, Our Morning Lesson, and When the Boys Come Home.

In the first poem, Mother’s Prayer, the mother thanks the Lord for He blessed them with plenty of rest for most of their lives. Thanking the Lord that a gift of a glorious new day has bestowed upon them every day. She prays that the light from the heavens above will brighten up their souls. She asks the Lord to never forget the poor people who struggle in their daily lives, that the messengers of the Lord will make them all delighted. She prays that the soldier boys will be blessed in their duties to protect the world against force and violence. That the Lord will be able to hear their voices and follow the Lord as their greatest and righteous leader. She asks that the Lord may guide them and keep them safe from harm that they may fight for peace and peace may reign in the hearts of all people.
