Christopher Morley was a journalist, novelist, essayist and poet from the United States. He also produced stage dramas and plays for some years and had college discussions.

Christopher was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. His father, Frank Morley, taught mathematics at Haverford College and his mother, Lilian Janet Bird, was a violinist who inspired Christopher to be passionate of literature and poetry.

Christopher started writing while he was still in college. He assisted in editing The Haverfordian and wrote articles in the college journal. He was a scriptwriter and was one of the actors in the college’s drama show. He was then a cricket and soccer player.

In Oxford, he wrote a collection of his poems, The Eighth Sin in 1912. After completing his studies from Oxford, Morley was active with his literary career at Doubleday, working as a publicist and publisher’s reader. In 1917, he began working as an editor for Ladies’ Home Journal until 1918, then as a newspaper correspondent and newspaper columnist in Philadelphia for the Philadelphia Evening Public Ledger.

Morley’s first fiction, Parnassus on Wheels, was published in 1917. The good character, the itinerant bookseller Roger Mifflin, was shown again in his second fiction, The Haunted Bookshop in 1919. He is notable for creating books of all types of genres.
