Description

Cecilia de Noël is a first hand and wittily recited spooky tale, issued in 1891. The tale is disclosed, similar to Rashomon, in 6 distinct perspectives.

The tale consists of: In Atherley’s Gospel, The Stranger’s Gospel; Mrs. Mostyn’s Gospel; Canon Vernade’s Gospel; Austyn’s Gospel; Mrs. Molyneux’s Gospel; and Cecilia’s Gospel.

Mary Elizabeth Hawker was a British novelist and short story writer. From 1890 and beyond she made stories using the pen name Lanoe Falconer.

She had an informal instruction and mainly self-learning, as she browsed over several volumes. When her father died, her mother remarried to Herbert Fennell, the family settled at France and Germany. She taught herself how to articulate French and German. She also knows how to play the piano.

Mary Elizabeth first started to scribble, and some tales and articles were seen in gazettes and periodicals. Her earliest much significant book was the prime volume of a run of fictional books published by Fisher Unwin in the Pseudonym Library, a tale written by Mary Elizabeth with the title Mademoiselle Ixe, by Lanoe Falconer. The book had been formerly declined by some issuers. The tale, a secrecy, tells about a female character who was a mistress in a country home in England who was related with Russian radicals. The Saturday Review announced it to be “one of the finest short stories in England.” Gladstone noted and told the commendations of the novel, of which the distribution was prohibited in Russia. More than 40,000 replications of the English versions were sold, and there were also global and American versions. It was interpreted into French, German, Dutch, and Italian. At a later date, she produced in 1891 Cecilia de Noel, a tale about goblins and The Hotel d’Angleterre.

She wrote these books as well: Mademoiselle Ixe in 1890; The Hôtel d’Angleterre and other stories in 1891; and Old Hampshire Vignettes in 1907.
