The New Testament contains the four narratives of the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus referred to as gospel; a history of the Apostle ministries in the primeval church, known as the Acts of the Apostles; twenty-one letters, usually termed as epistles from Greek epistole, comprising of Christian doctrine, counsel, instruction, and conflict resolution; and an Apocalypse, the Book of Revelation, which is a book of prophecy, comprising a few instructions to seven local congregations of Asia Minor, but generally comprising prophetical symbology, on the judgment day.

The Douay-Rheims Bible also called as the Rheims-Douai Bible or Douai Bible, or D-R and DV, is a Bible translation from the Latin Vulgate into English composed by the members of the English College, Douai, in the service of the Catholic Church. The section on The New Testament was printed in Reims, France, in 1582, in one volume with lengthy commentary and notes. The section on The Old Testament was printed in two volumes twenty seven years after in 1609 – 1610 by the University of Douai. The first volume includes Genesis through Job, was printed in 1609. The second volume includes Psalms to 2 Maccabees with an additional apocrypha of the Vulgate was printed in 1610. They proposed views on translation issues, and on the Hebrew and Greek reference texts of the Vulgate.
