Bible (ASV) 08: Ruth

Description

The Book of Ruth is one of the Five Megillot or Megilath Ruth meaning the Scroll of Ruth. The other four scrolls are the Song of Songs, the Book of Lamentations, Ecclesiastes and the Book of Esther. These five short scrolls are bound together in the bible in Jewish mores. The Book of Ruth is in the third writings of the Hebrew Bible placed in the days when the judges judged. Ruth, the Moabitess, was the great grandmother of David, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah. The focal point of the book reveals how Ruth accepts God of the Israelites as her own God and the Israelite people as her own people.

The Revised Version, Standard American Edition of the Bible, simply known as the American Standard Version (ASV), is a Bible translation into English language that was finished in 1901, with the production of the revision of the Old Testament; the revised New Testament had been published in 1900. It was originally noted by its complete title, but have other names, as the American Revised Version, the American Standard Revision, the American Standard Revised Bible, and the American Standard Edition. When its copyright was extended in 1929, it had come to be known as, the American Standard Version. Because of its distinction in seminaries, it was in the United States to sometimes call as the “Standard Bible”.

The American Standard Version, also known as The American Revision of 1901, started in 1870 to revise the Authorized Version or King James Bible of 1611. This work of revision gradually drafted the Revised Version (RV). American religious leaders for scholars were sent requests to lend a hand on the RV assignment. In 1871, thirty scholars were selected by Philip Schaff. The religious creed designated on the American committee were the Baptist, Congregationalist, Dutch Reformed, Friends, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Protestant Episcopal, and Unitarian. These scholars started their project in 1872.
