Bible (ASV) 05: Deuteronomy

Description

The Book of Deuteronomy in Greek as second law, in Hebrew as things or words is the fifth book of the Hebrew Bible, and the fifth of five books of the Jewish Torah or Pentateuch. A huge portion of the book contains five sermons addressed by Moses recalling the past forty years of walking in the wilds, and the hope in living into the Promised Land. The main subject is a defined statute where the Israelites are to live in Canaan or the Promised Land. The book is composed of the renewal of the covenant between YHWH, the Jewish God, and the ‘Children of Israel.’

The Revised Version, Standard American Edition of the Bible, simply known as the American Standard Version (ASV), is a Bible translation into English language that was finished in 1901, with the production of the revision of the Old Testament; the revised New Testament had been published in 1900. It was originally noted by its complete title, but have other names, as the American Revised Version, the American Standard Revision, the American Standard Revised Bible, and the American Standard Edition. When its copyright was extended in 1929, it had come to be known as, the American Standard Version. Because of its distinction in seminaries, it was in the United States to sometimes call as the “Standard Bible”.

The American Standard Version, also known as The American Revision of 1901, started in 1870 to revise the Authorized Version or King James Bible of 1611. This work of revision gradually drafted the Revised Version (RV). American religious leaders for scholars were sent requests to lend a hand on the RV assignment. In 1871, thirty scholars were selected by Philip Schaff. The religious creed designated on the American committee were the Baptist, Congregationalist, Dutch Reformed, Friends, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Protestant Episcopal, and Unitarian. These scholars started their project in 1872.
