The first story in the collection is entitled Mountain Man and it is the very first one in the line of Elkins stories, published in 1934 in Action Stories, one of the most popular pulp fiction magazine of the period. It brought huge success for the author, prompting him to continue writing Western stories. The other stories in the collection, such as Guns of the Mountains, A Gent from Bear Creek or War on Bear Creek are just as great, providing excellent entertainment for young and adult readers alike, those who are already fans of Western stories and those who want to become familiar with the genre.
