Ashton-Kirk, Secret Agent is the third novel written and published by John Thomas McIntyre and the second in the Ashton-Kirk series – the first story in the series features the young detective in the role of the investigator, while in the last two we see him as Special Detective and Criminologist.

Many critics have called the character of Ashton-Kirk just another variation of Sherlock Holmes, while others praise him for being way more polished, way more elegant and more creative than Holmes. However, in some cases, the method of investigation he employs is very similar to how Holmes approaches a case, leaving the reader puzzled about how his findings are related, but always providing an explanation in the end. He uses the classic method, just like Holmes – he collects evidence that he analyzes thoroughly, then he draws his conclusions based on the facts and nothing but the facts. He also has a helper whose style and attitude are very similar to Dr. Watson’s, but even he has traits that make him unique.
