Description

Anne of the Island by L. M. Montgomery continues the story of Anne Shirley, who is no longer the redhead troublemaker from Anne of the Green Gables, but a beautiful young woman in her early 20’s.

The heroine decides that it is time to continue her education, and leaves Prince Edward Island and goes to Nova Scotia, where she studies at the prestigious “Redmond College” to get a BA diploma. Marilla Cuthbert is left with Dora and Davy, who keep her company, succeeding to get themselves in all kind of trouble, just as Anne did when she was of the same age.

A new life begins for the heroine, in a totally new place and with new friends. However, with Charlie Sloane and Gilbert Blythe studying at the same college, she still has a small part of Avonlea with her. It is also the time for Anne to have her first romantic dreams and to search for a man who can match the image she has on love and who can meet her expectations.

Although she forms strong bonds with some of the girls attending Redmond, even moving in together with two of them, Phillippa Gordon and Stella Maynard, Anne feels very connected to Prince Edward Island, the place where she grew up. As for love, she finds it in the person she less expects…

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in 1874, in Clifton, a town on the Prince Edward Island. Her childhood place served as a main source of inspiration for most of the novels she wrote, including the famous Anne of Green Gables and its sequels. She died in 1942 in Toronto, but she was buried in Cavendish, on the Prince Edward Island she so much loved.

Her novels are as popular among children of all ages as they were eight or nine decades ago, when they were published for the first time
