Alice Hale Burnett was an American writer of children’s books as well as short stories. She is greatly known for writing stories set in a little village told as Merryvale. Her books were first published by The New York Book Company in the early onset of the Twentieth century.

She also wrote playful stories such as The Adventures of “Toad” and “Chuck” Brown, “Fat,” “Reddy” which are written in a collection of books known as The Merryvale Boys. In accordance to the details and description on the short stories, the collection of books characterizes a boy’s personal life in a little village the United States. Stories in the Merryvale Boy series such as Circus Day at Merryvale, Father Brown’s Indian Tale, The Picnic at Merryvale, it is also called as The Picnic Day at Merryvale, Christmas Holidays in Merryvale, Merryvale Boys on the Farm, Hallowe’en at Merryvale.

She also wrote the entertaining Merryvale Girl series, where the story is about Beth, Mary and Jerry. Stories include Beth’s Garden Party, A Day at the County Fair, Geraldine’s Birthday Surprise, and Mary Entertains the Sewing Club.
