George Savile was a legislator, author, and politician who sat in the House of Commons, and in the House of Lords after he was elevated to the title. Born in Thornhill, West Yorkshire to Sir William Savile, 3rd Baronet and Anne Coventry, oldest daughter of Lord Keeper Thomas Coventry, 1st Baron Coventry. His father was eminent in the civil war for the royalist cause and died in 1644. George was also the nephew of Sir William Coventry, who is said to have motivated his political thoughts, and of Lord Shaftesbury, then became his great adversary, and great-nephew of the Earl of Strafford.
