Accounts of the bold and dauntless discoverers who journeyed into the mysterious Sea of Darkness where it was believed of behemoths and outraged gods subsisted. They ventured to sail close to the equator which was said to have very extreme heat that it has the tendency to boil the waters of the sea. It was also naturally presumed during that time that the earth was flat, and the ships might tumble down the surface of the earth. These great men withstood these frights to discover and explore new territories.

Edward Richard Shaw was an American Professor and Dean in New York University, and a writer of a number of books, primarily young folks’ educational school books.

Edward Richard was born in 1855 at Bellport, New York which is a part of Long Island. His collegiate studies was at Lafayette College, and he earned his Ph.D. from New York University. After becoming a Principal at Sayville, New York; Greenport, Suffolk County, New York; and Yonkers or NY High School, he became a Professor of Pedagogy in the New York University. He was Dean, from the moment he died.

A few of his literary arts contained popular works edited for use by children who go to school. Such books include Black Beauty and Joshua Slocum’s Sailing alone around the world.
