Description

The Sign of Silence – An Intelligent Murder Mystery by William Le Queux

It all started with a mysterious murder and the disappearance of Mr. Royle’s faithful friend, Sir Digby. Things aren’t what they seem, however, and as Mr. Royle begins to dive deeper into exploring and investigating this strange case, newfound details emerge that seem to reveal a more nefarious plot than anyone could have imagined, and Sir Digby’s betrothed is right in the middle of it all.

As far as murder mysteries go, the Sign of Silence is not the most complex ones you can find out there. However, it is definitely among the most well-thought out and detailed plots, and if you are drawn to any small extent to eventful 19th century murder mystery novels, this one will captivate you throughout its 176 pages.

An enjoyable read overall, there are many great things about The Sign of Silence that you’re likely to be attracted to. First of all, it is set in a time when modern conveniences and technologies were not available, and unlike in the case of most modern day murder mysteries, the protagonists have to use their wit, intuition and intelligence to get to the bottom of a crime that seemed to have been very well-constructed.

Another remarkable aspect of this book has to do with the writing style that Le Queux has implemented, providing a remarkably detailed and well-designed plot that is depicted through clear words and remarks, as well as a keen and exciting sense of suspense that you don’t really get from many other authors.

Whether you’re more interested in the psychological profile of the characters or in solving the murder mystery by yourself before the book tells you what really happened,
