Description

Working on the final requests of a friend, legionnaire Eric John Stark does the mission of sending back a thieved jewel to a city full of walls close to an alien post, a city protected by the shadowy Gates of Death. He must get through the vicious tribes of Mekh and the ethereal Lord Ciaran to go to Kushat where they will possibly try to slay him. All along he struggles to get a tight grip on a jewel that leaves a mark of antiquated memoirs of the Gates in his thoughts. That is difficult for a man brought up by Mercurian indigenes. Black Amazon of Mars is the 3rd volume to highlight Leigh’s lead character Eric John Stark, and was afterwards broadened into the fictional book People of the Talisman. It was first produced in Planet Stories magazine in March of 1951.

Leigh Douglass Brackett was a novelist, especially of science fiction, and has been known as the Queen of Space Opera. She was also a scriptwriter, famous for her creation on these movies: The Big Sleep, Rio Bravo, The Long Goodbye and The Empire Strikes Back.

Leigh Brackett was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Her husband was Edmond Hamilton in San Gabriel, California, and settled with him to Kinsman, Ohio.

Leigh first produced in the middle of her twenties, the science fiction tale Martian Quest, seen in the publication Astounding Science Fiction. Her first years as a novelist were very successful – some tales have social plots, like The Citadel of Lost Ships, which takes into account the consequences on the indigenous ethnicities of terrestrial domains of the world’s increasing realm of industry.

Her first fictional story, No Good from a Corpse was a case-hardened mystery book in the custom of Raymond Chandler – the novel made her do her first huge scriptwriting project. Leigh’s science fiction novels came to be very aspiring.
