Donald Alexander Mackenzie was born on July 24, 1873 and died on March 2, 1936. He was a Scottish journalist and folklorist and a creative writer on the topics of religion, mythology and anthropology in the beginning of the 20th century.

He was born in Cromarty, to his parents A.H. Mackenzie and Isobel Mackay Mackenzie. He was a journalist in Glasgow and in 1903, he settled in Dingwall as owner and editor of The North Star. His subsequent career, in 1910, was to the People’s Journal in Dundee. In 1916, he corresponded to the Glasgow paper, The Bulletin, in Edinburgh. As he was writing fiction, articles and poems, he regularly made discussions, and also broadcast talks on Celtic mythology. He was one of the friends of a number of specialist authorities in his points of interest. His elder brother was William Mackay Mackenzie, Secretary of the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland from 1913 to 1935. He died in Edinburgh and rested in Cromarty.
