Also known as Doctor Angelicus or Doctor Communis, Saint Thomas Aquinas was a highly influential friar and theologian living in Italy during the 13th century. His views, expertise and influence were not limited to theology. Aquinas became known as one of the most compelling and authoritative Dominican philosophers and jurists of his time, and his influence on modern western thought and natural theology are quite considerable.

The Summa Theologica – also known simply as the Summa – is Aquinas’ best known work featuring a complete and comprehensive instructional guide initially intended for theology students. Summing up the entirety of theological knowledge at the time, it speaks in detail about the Creation story, God, man and his role in God’s Great Work, the Christ and the Holy Trinity.

The Prima Pars, Trinity and Creation comprises the second of a total of six parts that make up the Summa. It focuses mainly on questions regarding the topics of Creation and the Holy Trinity, while giving concise and clear explanations about the deeper philosophical issues around these pivotal theological topics.

Aquinas’ work was intended as a detailed intellectual guide that would answer as many of the most frequently asked, as well as the most obscure and lesser known questions associated with religion and theology.
