Enter The Strange World Of The Gerrard Street And Learn About Its Mysteries

John Charles Dent was a prolific Canadian author, journalist and historian. He wrote many ambitious works in which he tried to document the history of Canada during the 19th century. However, he also wrote many sketches and short stories, some of the most notable being The Gerrard Street and Other Weird Tales.

John Charles Dent was ambitious in his writing and he obtained fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada in 1887, just one year before his death. The Gerard Street and Other Weird Tales was published posthumously in 1888 and it contains a collection of short stories written at considerable time intervals. All of the stories are anchored into the Upper Canada region where he spent much of his life. In these short stories, the author recalls the spooky and mystical feel of the geography of Upper Canada as well as Gagtooth’s Image in Illinois.

The main four stories are The Gerrard Street Mystery, Gagtooth’s Image, The Haunted House on Dutchess Street, and Savareen’s Disappearance. All of them are characterized by a mysterious atmosphere that will keep all readers on their toes, afraid but eager to see what is behind the corner or what will happen next.

The author employs a dark and slow writing style, which does well to emphasize the already cold atmosphere of the villages in Upper Canada , covered in the mist coming from the Great Lakes.

While Dent has become known for his historical books, the The Gerard Street and Other Weird Tales will certainly draw the attention of readers looking for something different and special. The slow and descriptive style of Dent will appeal rather to the more mature audience, but the delightfully crafted stories taking place in the charming yet spooky territories of Upper Canada will keep even younger readers highly entertained.
