Description

Co-authored by Augusta Groner and Grace Isobel Colborn – who later translated the novel to English – The Case of the Golden Bullet is a unique and intriguing murder mystery that introduces us to a rather unconventional Austrian detective going by the name of Joseph Muller. Unlike most of his prolific predecessors, Muller is less imposing, and he is basically a man without too many extraordinary abilities, and with a more human, as well as quite likable profile.

A combination of keen intelligence and impressive determination, however, makes him stand out, while also giving this story a few exciting sharp turns and unexpected plot twists. Overall enjoyable and thought-provoking, The Case of the Golden Bullet will also place readers inside a world where nothing is truly as it seems, and where the subtle observations of detective Muller are the only guiding light to give you a hint about what is truly happening.

The essence of the story is a case that baffles authorities and requires the keen insight of a sharper intelligence. As they call Muller to help them with the case, an important detail about the crime catches his eye: the fact that the bullet used for the murder is pure, solid gold.

Muller’s determination to solve the case and reveal the truth no matter what makes him an extremely capable, as well as dangerous detective. However, he isn’t perfect, and his greatest flaw may end up costing him a great deal in the end.

Augusta Groner makes for an extremely capable storyteller and an author with a unique sense of guiding the story right where it’s supposed to go, well before you can predict the next move. If you’re interested in finding a truly enjoyable old school mystery story, The Case of the Golden Bullet is definitely a good place to start.
