Description

When Philip receives a strange request from the father of a beautiful and charming young lady, he expects his assignment of accompanying the young lady to her home might be easy, and even quite pleasant. However, nothing is the way it seems, and soon enough he ends up in a complex situation, where saving the young girl, his own life, his reputation and the contents of a strange black bag may be more difficult than he first assumed.

The Black Bag is counted among Louis Joseph Vance’s first novels and an excellent read, according to both critics and readers from the past 100 years or so. The story centers around a complex and intelligent young protagonist who goes by the name of Philip, and pursues his adventures as he attempts to complete the mission he was tasked with.

This is a fascinating and fast-paced mystery story that will keep you at the edge of your seat to the very end. While it isn’t necessarily as popular and well-written as Vance’s later works – The Lone Wolf series in particular – the story was quite popular at the time, and still remains one of the few books of its genre written in that period that still appeals to numerous readers today.

Louis Joseph Vance was quite a successful novelist whose many action-packed novels were more than popular in the early 20th century. More than 20 of Vance’s books were turned into successful movies between 1914 and 1949, and many more continued to attract a varied readership well after the author’s death in 1933.

Whether you’re interested in some light reading with likable characters and an intriguing mystery, or are just looking for an action-packed adventure with many unexpected plot twists, The Black Bag will delight and entertain you to the very end.
