John Henry Haaren was a US educator and historian. His father was German and his mother was both Irish and British. He attended the Columbia University under Prof. N. M. Butler at Columbia University, before becoming a professor in New York. He was an Associate Superintendent of Schools in New York, enlisting more preschoolers and foreign students.

He was director of the department of pedagogy in the Brooklyn Institute. Haaren High School in Manhattan was given title in his credit. The Charles B. J. Snyder educational institution which was firstly DeWitt Clinton High School is now known as Haaren Hall on the campus of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

He authored such books as: Addison B. Poland (1904). Famous Men of Rome; Addison B. Poland (1904). Famous Men of the Middle Ages; Addison B. Poland (1904). Famous Men of Greece; Addison B. Poland (1909). Famous Men of Modern Times; Fairy Life: Third Reader Grade. 1896; and Addison B. Poland (1914). First Notions of Geography.

Two of these famous men such as Vasco da Gama, 1st Count of Vidigueira was a Portuguese who discovered India and Napoléon Bonaparte was a preeminent French army and politician through the French Revolution and held many active campaigns through the French Revolutionary Wars.
