Description

On a rainy Saturday night in May, a man sought himself at Castelvetrano discussing with Angelo, the leader, about the climate. His commentary was that it would vanish in the evening; the man stated that if it did they would go to Selinunte, and this defined his outlook; so, on the comprehension that there was to be no fall, the man chosen him padrone of the exploration and swore to comply in all his travels.

He was rather precise; Sunday morning was brightly fair, and at about 8:30 in the morning they began. He started by presenting him his acquisitions; he had been out early, going to the market, and his bag comprised fresh tunny, the first of the term, veal, salame, dried fish, bread and oranges, but no liquor; he told the man that they must look for that at B 2 the locanda, where they would grill the tunny and the veal for them.

Henry Festing Jones was a British solicitor and novelist, the close confidante and post-mortem biographer of Samuel Butler.

He was the son of Thomas Jones Q.C., and got admitted at Trinity Hall in Cambridge. Earning a degree B.A., he was itemed to a solicitor and was skilled in the profession.

Henry encountered Samuel Butler through Edward Hall, a college pal; they became close since then. He later became Henry’s salaried mate and lyrical collaborator. Henry had moved in Clifford’s Inn, London, where he resided for most of his life; Henry settled in Barnard’s Inn and Staple Inn during the years of Samuel.

When Samuel died, Henry lived within London to Maida Vale, where his sister shared residence with him. He counselled Henry’s executors – Reginald Worsley, and R. A. Streatfeild who was literary executor. He prepared the yearly Erewhon Dinners in Samuel’s remembrance at the proposition of Marcus Hartog. P. N. Furbank has faulted the editorial position Samuel had, and the attempt to make Samuel honorable, of the years before the biography was released.
