Mary Elizabeth Wormeley Latimer was a British-American author of genuine pieces and interpretations.

She was well educated by instructors and at a school in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Her first journeys also helped her gain more knowledge. She spent the winter in Boston as the visitor of George Ticknor’s family, and in that circumstance, she had taken more inspiration to her career in writing. Admiral Ralph Randolph Wormeley, her father, of the British navy, a Virginian national, had for a few time gone before he died, lived in Boston, Massachusetts, and was grandson, on the maternal side, of Sir John Randolph, attorney general for the Colony of Virginia. Caroline Preble, her mother, was a niece of Commodore Edward Preble, U. S. Navy. Their daughter lived many years in Newport, Rhode Island, and in 1856, after having been recognized as an author and married Randolph Brandt Latimer of Baltimore. She then spent her time to her own family. Then she continued with her writing career.

She was also known for some of these works: Italy in the Nineteenth Century and the Making of Austro-Hungary and Germany, The Last Years of the Nineteenth Century.
